The resort of Magaluf and the adjacent resort of Palma Nova are located on the west coast of Palma Bay on the mediterranean jewel of Majorca. The two resorts are separated by a 5 minute taxi trip or a a half hour minute walk for the health conscious. Most holiday resorts in Majorca are biased towards either English or German visitors. Both Palma Nova and Magaluf are rock solid British dominated resorts.

That said, Magaluf and Palma Nova will not attract the more sophisticated British visitors. A lot of people find Palma Nova and Magaluf in Majorca a bit tacky and prefer quieter Mallorcan resorts such as Puerto Pollensa. Perhaps not quite a sunny version of Scarborough or Blackpool, but you may notice a few similarities. Usually people either love these resorts or hate them with a vengance. Both Magaluf and Palma Nova offer numerous British owned and operated bars, sports bars and restaurants geared up for the tastes of the main visitors in these resorts, the British visitors. These is no shortage of places selling Full English Breakfasts at remarkably low prices and you will not struggle to find a place to watch either live football or Test cricket, washed down with a pint of whatever you fancy or a proper cup of tea. Britons feeling unwell will discover a British Medical practice or a British dental practice which is located on the main street in Palma Nova. On balance, a Britain abroad for British people in almost everything apart from the weather which is safely forecast to be fantastically hot in the peak months of July and August.

The resort of Magaluf is best known as a resort to party. There are numerous nightclubs where you can party the night away until the small hours. Palma Nova is still quite a lively destination, but it is certainly a little lower key than Magaluf and probably more suited to families who prefer not to take a holiday right in the centre of a party zone. Magaluf has also become a top destination for Hen and Stag weekends. The behaviour in Magaluf does get a little lively to say the least in high season. Remember Palma Nova is only a short bus/taxi ride or 30 minute stroll away from Magaluf, so visitors based in Palma Nova Majorca will can experience the clubs and pubs of Magaluf rests within range. Magaluf and Palma Nova have world class beaches of fine sand. There is some natural shade from some pine trees at the Magaluf end of the beach in Palma Nova. There are plenty of sun loungers and parasols available to rent on the beaches, though a little pricey in peak season. I was charged 10.50 Euro for only a couple of sun beds and a parasol in Palma Nova this year.

Coach transfers from Palma Airport often takes around 30 minutes to either Magaluf or Palma Nova. Usually car hire from Magaluf or from Palma Airport is usually quite cheap by comparison against other Mediterranean destinations however rates in summer 2009 went to astronomical levels because of a general shortage of cars to rent which caused a supply mismatch. If you plan to rent a car from the airport think about getting some maps of Majorca before you leave.
