There are basically two points of view when talking about stopping heartburn. The first trend is to go on the offensive, or, in other words, stop heartburn before it starts! Others don’t really worry about prevention, preferring to find a remedy after the fact.

If we want to avoid heartburn, then make certain lifestyle changes where good habits replace bad and using common sense to avoid overeating.

Medical professionals insist that prevention is the only safe heartburn remedy available. Chronic heartburn can lead to other gastric problems, so, prevention is the way to go.

Don’t stuff yourself at mealtime! You will pay for it with a good case of heartburn.

Eating a banana before your main meal can also help. It will coat your stomach lining and keep acid at bay.

If you find that you fall of the wagon every now and then, there are several home remedies for heartburn that you will find helpful. As for “remedies after the fact”, I know of only two that are both safe and effective.

One remedy is to dissolve a rounded teaspoon of baking soda in 4 ounces of water. Drink the potion and get ready for the belches to begin.

You can also use vinegar as a home remedy. A one ounce shot followed by a good drink of water often brings immediate relief. If you’re worried about drinking straight vinegar a 50/50 mix of apple cider and vinegar will work almost as well.
